Lets Cook_2021 catalogue

Let’s cook Every Friday it’s the same story. I gleefully slam the lid shut on my laptop, clear off the mountain of Post-it notes burying my substitute dining table desk and mosey on over to the fridge for my debatably “well- deserved” end of the week snack. Only to see it. Blank and glaring. The most judgmental carrot-shaped piece of paper known to humanity. My meal planner. I yank open the fridge door in desperation. Maybe I have some leftovers? Or I can make some lazy eggs? Nope. The fridge is empty too. All that’s left is a mostly-empty jar of hummus and those irresistible jewel pink radishes I just had to buy at the market and never figured out how to cook. My phone buzzes. It’s a text message from my wife: “The cookbooks are on the bottom shelf. Let me know what I’m buying from the shops”. Fortunately for me and my long-suffering wife, HarperCollins have been rescuing and inspiring cooks for generations. The Golden Wattle Cookery Book hit the shelves in 1924 and still handed down mother to son, father to daughter. Those kick-arse scones your granny always lays out for afternoon tea, you can find them in the Country Women’s Association Cookery Book and Household Hints . But before you think we’re stuck in the dark ages, we also have an incredible array of modern talent. Not sure what to cook for that friend who decided to go vegan in the new year? Henry Firth and Ian Theasby’s BOSH! series has got all your plant-based needs covered. Competitive fire fuelled by that annoying cousin’s perfect lockdown cake-stagram? In Now for Something Sweet , The Monday Morning Cooking Club takes cake artistry to the next level. Taste.com.au’s Fast Revolution will guarantee you stay on track with your intermittent fasting, and why not flick on over to our Donna Hay page to spice up those bland weeknight dinners? For me, I’m going with Anna Jones’s double lime, cashew and ginger stir-fry (yes it contains a certain pink vegetable). Come join me! Ditch those ten recipes you’ve been recycling all season, grab a cookbook and tie up your apron strings. Readers and radishes, let’s cook!
